Come and Rejoice as we celebrate the future together
2009 Fall Festivals
The feasts of the LORD,
which you shall proclaim to be holy convocations,
these are My feasts.
Lev 23:2
Feast of Trumpets
The Feast of Trumpets is about Jesus’ Second Coming. It’s about Jesus being crowned King of kings and Lord of lords. Jesus Himself spoke of His return with “a great sound of a trumpet” (Matthew 24:29-31). The Apostle Paul wrote: “For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God (1 Thessalonians 4:16). And Revelation 11:15 says, “Then the seventh angel sounded” – remember this is the Feast of TrumpetS. John continues, “and there were loud voices in heaven, saying, ‘The kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever!’”
God instructed Moses to tell the children of Israel that the Feast of Trumpets was to be a “memorial of the blowing of trumpets” (Leviticus 23:24). For us it is more anticipation and celebration of the glorious Second Coming of our Lord. This celebration is held on the first day of the seventh month of the Hebrew Calendar.
Day of Atonement
The Day of Atonement is about the Father reconciling the world to Himself through Jesus. Under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, the Apostle Paul told the Corinthians that “God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself” (2 Corinthians 5:19). The ceremony in Leviticus 16 pictured this reconciliation with the ram having sins confessed over its head, the High Priest entering the “Holy of Holies” and sprinkling blood on the Ark. This special day is ten days after the Feast of Trumpets (Leviticus 23:32). That’s because . . .
All this happens after the Second Coming and the Resurrection of the Dead because God has chosen to reconcile people before He reconciles the rest of creation to Himself. “For it pleased the Father that . . . by Him to reconcile all things to Himself . . . whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross” (Colossians 1:19-20). This means that God wants to restore things to “the way they were originally meant to be” before Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden. Please see Acts 3:19-21; Isaiah 11:6-9; Isaiah 55:12-13. This reconciling of the world, this restoring of all things is beautifully described in the Book of Romans:
“For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God. For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it in hope; because the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs together until now. Not only that, but we also . . . groan within ourselves, eagerly waiting for the . . . redemption of our body” (Romans 8:19-23).
Feast of Tabernacles
This seven day Festival, which is held five days after the Day of Atonement (Leviticus 23:34-36) is about what life will be like on earth after Jesus returns and sets things in order according to His Sovereign, Almighty will. In the Old Testament, Daniel concluded his interpretation of King Nebuchadnezzar’s dream this way: “And in the days of these kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed; and the kingdom shall not be left to other people; it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand forever” (Daniel 2:44).
This glorious time of Jesus’ actual, literal rule on the earth is called “The Millennium.” “Millennium” comes from the Latin word for one thousand and is based on Revelation 20:4 which says that the saints “lived and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.”
This future time is described by the Old Testament Prophet Micah this way:
They shall beat their swords into plowshares,
And their spears into pruning hooks;
Nation shall not lift up sword against nation,
Neither shall they learn war anymore.
But everyone shall sit under his vine and under his fig tree,
And no one shall make them afraid;
For the mouth of the LORD of hosts has spoken.
Micah 4:3-4
Last Great Day
The Last Great Day is about the prophetic events that occur after the Millennium. The Last Great Day occurs at the conclusion of the Feast of Tabernacles, which extends the whole Festival to eight days rather than seven (Leviticus 23:39). These future events that will occur as the Millennium comes to a close, are foretold in Revelation chapter 20 beginning in verse 7 on through the end of chapter 22. The Apostle Paul summarizes what happens this way in 1 Corinthians 15:24-28:
“Then comes the end, when He delivers the kingdom to God the Father, when He puts an end to all rule and all authority and power. For He must reign till He has put all enemies under His feet. The last enemy that will be destroyed is death. Now when all things are made subject to Him, then the Son Himself will also be subject to Him who put all things under Him, that God may be all in all”.
The earth’s Creator has great plans for this “third rock from the sun” in what the Bible calls “a New Heaven and a New Earth” in which righteousness alone will dwell (2 Peter 3:13).
Isn’t it great to be part of what God is doing in preparation for His Son’s return? Brothers and sisters, come and rejoice as we celebrate the future together!
